When she was 17, Brandi Carlile picked up the guitar and began creating music. Inspired by classic rock & roll of the 1970s, Carlile played anywhere she could get a gig. While playing Seattle's clubs, she was introduced to a band called the Fighting Machinists. Carlile was instantly impressed, and when the group broke up, she persuaded the members to form a group with her.

In 2005, Carlile was signed to Columbia Records, releasing a self-titled album that earned praise from critics. Rolling Stone named her one of the year's "Artists to Watch." On her sophomore album, The Story, Carlile opened up her heart, soul, and mind in a series of memorable songs.

Carlile's latest album, Give Up The Ghost, has been labeled her most candid record yet. It finds the artist exploring themes like death and transformation. On, "That Year," Carlile remembers a friend who committed suicide when they were teenagers. With her powerful lyrics and raw acoustic sound, Carlile continues to win over fans. This young and talented artist is excited to join RED(NIGHTS) as a performer.
